Children that have the opportunity to participate in school sports programs are exposed to many of the social and emotional benefits sports can bring including intangible benefits to the school and community as a whole. “Sports also create important opportunities for students to contribute to the school community, which may cultivate an increased commitment to, or identification with, school and school values.” Studies have found that advantages of sports include: Weight control, Problem-solving skills, Self-Esteem, Social competence, Academic achievement. Sports can lead to reduced rates of: Juvenile arrests, Teen pregnancies and School dropout.
Madison Taylor Indoor Environmental supports the Children's National Health System - Foundation
In 2004, we discovered our daughter Madison had a heart defect called Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). We consulted with a local cardiologist who was recommended by our pediatrician. The Cardiologist informed us our four-year-old daughter would require open heart surgery to repair the defect. This news was terrifying and it took a while for us to wrap our minds around the thought of our little girl having to go through such a serious surgery. We followed the advice of friends and sought a second opinion from Dr. Ruckman with Children’s Hospital. After a thorough examination, Dr. Ruckman confirmed there was a heart defect, but recommended a minimally invasive procedure to patch the hole in our daughter’s heart. A few months later a catheter delivered device called an Amplatzer Septal Occluder was positioned in our daughter’s heart and closed the hole. We still remember the relief we felt when the surgeon Dr. Michael C. Slack told us “the procedure went perfectly.”
Our daughter is now a very active teenager. She is in highschool and enjoys many local after-school activities, varsity basketball.
From our family’s perspective, Children’s Hospital performed a miracle for our daughter and we are very grateful. We fully support the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Though we have met many families who have had similar experiences as ours, we have been surprised how many families are unaware of the amazing options and care provided by Children’s Hospital. If you have any questions about our experience please feel free to contact us by phone or email.
We are excited and grateful to be able to work with the Children’s Hospital Foundation in order to make a difference. Madison Taylor Indoor Environmental provides mold and indoor air quality testing and remediation services for VA, MD and DC. We thank you for taking the time to read about our family experience and considering our company services. Whether you choose to use our services or not, we hope you would consider donating to the Children’s Hospital Foundation (go to https://childrensnational.org/giving/give for more information.)
